Clothes cut to the person wearing them.
Zoixaa Tailors is a small workshop in Ahmedabad. We make shirts, trousers, jackets and kurtas to your measurements, and alter ready-made clothes that almost fit — taken in at the waist, shortened at the sleeve, let out where there is cloth to let.
How a garment is made
- Measure. Around twenty measurements, taken standing: neck, chest, shoulder, sleeve, wrist, waist, seat and inside leg. It takes a few minutes, and it is the one part that cannot be corrected later.
- Cut a test garment. For a first commission we cut and baste a calico copy, so a shoulder line or a sleeve length can be moved before your own cloth is touched.
- Make. Stitched in the workshop. Collars are lined, buttonholes are worked by hand, and every seam is pressed as it is sewn rather than at the end.
- Fit again. You wear the finished garment once more so we can mark anything that still needs moving. Small corrections go back on the bench and are finished from there.
